About Bearing.io | Marine Predictive Intelligence

Built for the operators the industry forgot.

Bearing.io exists because the most capable marine intelligence platforms cost more than most fleets earn in a year. We’re changing that.

The gap we fill

Today, marine operators face a choice: spend $500K–$2M on enterprise solutions from Wärtsilä or Kongsberg designed for mega-fleets and industrial operators, or settle for generic IoT platforms built for factories and buildings that don’t understand maritime failure modes.

The 50,000+ small and medium-sized operators—ferries, charter yachts, offshore supply vessels, fishing fleets, harbor tugs—operate in a forgotten middle ground. Their vessels are sophisticated. Their budgets are real. But they’ve been priced out of every monitoring solution that actually works for marine environments.

Bearing.io is purpose-built for that gap: marine-first intelligence at a price SME operators can afford.

How we’re building it differently

Marine-First Engineering

Every design decision is made for the marine environment: NMEA 2000 native, IP67-rated hardware, offline-first architecture, and failure modes specific to vessel propulsion systems.

Fail-Operational by Design

At sea, connectivity is a luxury. Our onboard intelligence runs continuously on the vessel with no internet dependency. Nothing goes dark when the internet does.

Certification as a Moat

We’re pursuing DNV CMON class notation and ABS SmartMarine recognition from day one—the certifications that enable condition-based maintenance and create a competitive moat no new entrant can quickly replicate.

Nate Price

Founder & CEO

Nate Price is an engineer and entrepreneur who built Bearing.io’s initial prototype — NMEA 2000 integration, AI anomaly detection engine, and live vessel dashboard — before incorporating the company. Bearing.io is one of two sister companies Nate founded applying predictive maintenance AI to specialized vehicle domains. SteadyPulse addresses the same problem for land vehicles. Bearing.io focuses exclusively on marine.

“The marine operators who need this technology the most are exactly the ones who’ve been priced out of every solution on the market. That’s the problem Bearing.io exists to solve.”

Mission & Stage

Our Mission

Bring Wärtsilä-grade vessel intelligence to every fleet manager who’s ever had to choose between a maintenance budget and a mortgage.

Current Stage

Pre-seed. Prototype → Production. Targeting NOAA SBIR Phase I (November 2026) for $175K non-dilutive funding. First pilot vessels onboarding Q2–Q3 2026. Seed fundraise planned for 2027.
